Eaton Hydro Developers is a power generation developer in the Province of British Columbia that successfully completed the 11MW Furry Creek run-or-river project in 2004. Eaton Hydro’s primary focus is on hydro generation development and will pursue a variety of renewable generation projects in both British Columbia and other jurisdictions. Eaton Hydro is focused on developing and commercializing renewable generation projects with sales to both BC Hydro and other creditworthy electricity buyers.
Following the successful electrification of the Furry Creek project, Eaton Hydro entered a joint venture arrangement with Enmax Corporation from Calgary. The new venture is called Hydromax and is accountable for run-of-river hydro generation projects in BC that are less than 50 megawatts.
Hydromax will be submitting four projects to BC Hydro’s 2005 Call For Tender process and will participate in all future BC Hydro Calls.
Eaton Hydro is also assessing various large hydro and alternative generation projects in British Columbia and other jurisdictions.
Small Hydro power projects are designed to be of minimal impact on the environment. We do not build dams to store water, but rather we construct small diversion wiers to temporarily divert part of the run of the river, in order to operate our turbines, and then return the water to its natural course. Small Hydro projects, like ours, are considered one of the most environmentally friendly forms of power generation.
Water license applications were each selected for its optimum development potential. Some of the criteria for site selection includes – the necessity to have zero impact on Salmon spawning - Minimal road and transmission requirements creating an eco friendly hydro development. Each of the projects involves a minimum of environmental disruption to develop, and it is believed that each will qualify as "Green Energy" projects by both BC Hydro and Environment Canada.
